Our Programmes
Skill Development Programmes:
Barista course – A small group of young unemployed adults are trained annually in coffee making, and the programme attempts to find employment placement at local coffee outlets.
Thokozani Work Readiness Programme – The programme was developed in response to employment challenges facing young people in the community as they seek to enter the workspace. Lack of confidence and knowledge of how to find work, and what is expected of new employees, was a strong motivator in developing this programme. This nine week programme is facilitated once a year with about 20 unemployed young people under 35 years of age.
School Based Programmes:
Goal Pro Solutions - a powerful life coaching and goal setting programme is facilitated by Project Workers in four schools and reaches just over 600 learners in grades 7, 8 and 9. This is facilitated weekly during the school term in Life Orientation lesson time. Goal Pro equips learners with essential life skills with a focus on personal development, growth, and academic & overall well-being. The positive impact of this initiative is evident with students showing increased dedication to their studies, and having a greater send of purpose and hope.
School Assemblies – activities and talks are held at seven schools in the community before class. Talks aim at encouraging learners and teachers, and developing unity and a positive school culture. This provides opportunities to share the gospel and positive messages before the school day starts, reaching over 5000 learners a week.
Community Based Programmes:
Youth clubs – after-school & weekend activities are facilitated in the Embo community with the youth. This is a very popular initiative run after school with over 250 learners attending. Youth clubs provide a platform for young people to explore their passions, build friendships and gain valuable life experience. They also foster a sense of belonging, encourage personal growth and encourage young people to become active and responsible members of the community. A wide range of activities is provided that cater to diverse interests and needs.
Young people for change – every Saturday about 50 young people of all ages gather in a safe space to build healthy community. This a space for connecting, sharing and instilling values, and where assistance with schoolwork is given. We are inspired to see transformation in the lives of young people in this space.
Sport – after hours and weekend sporting activities are facilitated in the Embo community for over 70 learners. Activities include netball and soccer practice for both young girls and boys, and participation in games and tournaments. Participants love the opportunity to expend their energy on the field. Sport brings young people together, forging friendships, facilitating a sense of pride and bringing hope and fun in what can be difficult circumstances.
